The weekend’s box office has been released. Among the top 5 at the box office are three new films and a reasonably significant drop for the new Avatar movie. In its second week, Avatar: The Way of Water brought in a domestic total of $56,000,000. This figure brings its overall domestic total to $253,681,686. Of course, the new Avatar movie opened last week with over $134,000,000.
Readers should also note that this weekend’s box office is calculated differently than usual due to the holiday. Since this is a long weekend for many people, the box office also has an estimate for Monday’s ticket sales. According to this chart, which includes December 26th, the movie has a long weekend total of $82,000,000. The industry estimates this estimate based on movie-going trends from the weekend.
Though these are still solid numbers for almost any movie, this isn’t the box office the studio expected from a blockbuster like Avatar. This is especially concerning because the first Avatar movie is regarded for its low week-to-week box office drop. Still, the film won’t have serious competition for some time, so it has time to hold the number one spot. The problem is that the budget for Avatar is pretty spectacular, so it seems, at this rate, it will take the film a while to recoup that amount.
The Rest Of The Top 5 At The Box Office
The second most popular movie at this weekend’s box office was the new Puss in Boots movie. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish brought in $11,350,000 for its debut weekend. At number 3 at this weekend’s box office is Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, with $5,300,000. Of course, this is the latest Whitney Houston biopic. At number 4 this weekend is Paramount’s Babylon. It made $3,500,000 for the weekend. Rounding out the top 5 at the box office for the weekend is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which made $3,022,000.
