Everyone has goals with their careers, and Aubrey Plaza is aiming to be the “female Tim Burton” with her next movie, she revealed in an interview with GQ. The secret family-friendly movie has not had many details, but from this goal, we will get some family-friendly spookiness and gothic inspirations for this film. She will write and direct the film, making it the first major film she will direct.

We do have some hints about the project, as Aubrey Plaza pointed to Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice to get our brains thinking about the style and tone of the movie. The project is still ways away as she is quite busy, so no date is set for when production will begin.

Taking on the gothic filmmaker’s style is a mighty task. He has become known for his work on films like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and most recently, Wednesday, the Netflix series on the Addams Family character with Jenna Ortega taking on the role.

Aubrey Plaza wants to be the “female Tim Burton” for her next movie

The Parks and Recreation star has done some directing in the past. There was a lost TV movie on her IMDB titled Fucked that she directed, but Googling it will lead to a Reddit post about a failed attempt to find the film and porn sites. She has done an episode of UCB Comedy Originals and last year helmed an episode of Cinema Toast. Both of those episodes of TV she had written too, giving her some experience upon taking her first major film to helm.

Known more for her acting, Aubrey Plaza is going to be busy in the foreseeable future. This year, she has starred in Little Demon, an episode of The Simpsons, and the latest season of The White Lotus. She is currently gearing up to shoot Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. Ahead of that, she will enter the MCU with Kathryn Hahn’s spinoff series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Other projects will include Olga Dies Dreaming, The Ark and Aardvark, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre.
