Mythology has often provided an interesting basis for some great games. Some players are enchanted by the lore of game worlds, while others live for action-packed combat. Stories about gods typically pack a hearty dose of both. Thus, it’s easy to see why titles such as Hades and God of War are beloved. If you’re a fan of mythology in video games, then you might want to keep an eye out in the near future. ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree, an adventure game rooted in Norse mythology, is coming to PC and Switch next year.
If the game sounds familiar, that’s because the game has been around on Apple Arcade for a while. Now, however, it’s broadening its horizons and moving to new platforms.
What can players expect from ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree?
The game is based on Norse mythology. Of course, this means that humans are living in the realm of Midgard. Unfortunately, in ATONE, they no longer have the protection of the gods, as today’s press release explains.
“The gods have abandoned this realm and left the mortals behind to deal with the fallout. With Odin’s chosen guardians gone, the sacred Elder Tree, which they swore to protect, is exposed to abuse and manipulation. Now, the only remnants of hope reside in Estra, the daughter of mankind’s last great leader.”
Estra’s adventure comprises a role-playing game with puzzles and combat. Today’s press release cites Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero as inspiration for the latter, which is rhythm based. That said, developer Wildboy Studios is aware that this isn’t everyone’s strong suit.
“Music is a crucial component, with each fight receiving its very own song. For those born with the natural rhythm skills of a forest troll, combat is entirely skippable.”
ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree is coming to PC and Switch next year. A demo is out now on PC for Steam Next Fest.
