Disney+ has a lot of popular and upcoming content, ranging from Star Wars to the MCU. Now the streaming service has announced that one of its movies, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, is getting a live-action series.

Disney has made no secret of its plans to revitalize some of its classic content with live-action remakes—namely Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. Now with the announcement of the cult-classic, Atlantis, Disney is giving fans a new twist on their previous remakes. All of the company’s other remakes are live-action movies, based on previous animated projects. This new announcement is refreshing, as a new series opens up a lot of possibilities.

Atlantis has something of a cult following among fans. Atlantis: The Lost Empire is one of the few movies from classic Disney that doesn’t have musical numbers and features a truly diverse cast. The art is unique from other movies at that time and the interesting world that the movie features would be amazing to see in a more in-depth setting.

With such a unique setting and variety of characters available, Atlantis, is a bold first choice for Disney to choose to convert to a longer series. However, given the success of the company’s other original Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian, it is possible the Atlantis series does true justice to the movie and revitalizes its fan base.

Undoubtedly, Disney has had great success with its streaming platform and its original content. Between the upcoming Marvel series such as Loki and WandaVision and the return of The Mandalorian for a second season, it seems like a great time for Disney to breathe life into an older franchise and make it something special. The real questions are where are they going to film it, who are they cast, and where is the trailer?
