Many The Sims 4 console players felt some unexpected excitement today when EA revealed that a frequently requested feature was finally coming to the console platforms: the Gallery.
During a Twitch stream, the team at Maxis Studios announced that the Gallery, the in-game portal for sharing player-built houses, families, and more, will be coming to consoles early next year—and it will be cross platform. The team did not share a release date.
The one caveat is that the mode will not be able to support custom content, meaning that modded content is not going to be able to be shared with console players. What they can share is all creations made with the resources within the game itself, though the devs did leave the door open for it to possibly happen down the road.
The Gallery is a place for players to create and share their own creations in the game. While it has long been a space for users to enjoy each other’s creations and experiment with their own ideas on the PC version of The Sims 4, this feature has been sorely lacking from the console ports of the game.
PC players may have some disappointment in the news, as the “big surprise” that was advertised for the stream didn’t end up changing anything for them. But the news is big for the game as a whole.
It is exciting to see so many games diving into the world of cross platform, with games like Modern Warfare allowing gamers to play together regardless of what system they are on. It is something that fans have wanted for a long time, and it looks like Maxis is the next company to jump on with the idea.
The Sims 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
