Astroneer has been in early access for some time now as System Era Softworks has continued to expand, add new features, and apply the necessary polish in preparation for its official liftoff into 1.0 territory. The official release now has a date, and the countdown has started towards February 6, 2019. By the sounds of it, the 1.0 release will not be a mere version change out of early access but add substantial and long-awaited features.

Not only will Astroneer leave early access on Xbox One and PC on February 6, 2019, but it will also add several new features.

Liftoff will debut a new exploration-focused adventure that will take you to seven brand new planets while facing challenges like dangerous flora, treacherous terrain, and immense, mysterious structures.

Increased character customization options empower every astronaut to showcase their personality as they explore new narrative elements.

Dedicated servers will enable intrepid adventurers to build their bases asynchronously through Xbox One and PC cross-play, fulfilling the developer’s intended vision. This feature alone should provide for some great new opportunities to explore the galaxy with your friends, as the peer-to-peer multiplayer has been Astroneer‘s Achilles heel during early access.

“Astroneer reflects on the legacy of human space exploration and imagines the future,” says System Era Softworks communications director Joe Tirado. “We want to inspire a sense of wonder and reverence for the beautiful universe we live in, while promoting ideals such as creativity, tackling adversity and outside-the-box thinking.”

And what better way to experience this sense of wonder and exploration than with your friends. Right now is the perfect time to pick it up as it’s 20% off in the Steam Store at the moment and its price will rise to $29.99 on November 16, 2018.
