In a recent panel at Develop:Brighton, EA Motive Studios’ Jade Raymond has revealed that Assassin’s Creed – which she served as a producer for, back in her Ubisoft days – was meant to be a trilogy.

She said she still is “surprised” by how much successful the franchise turned to be, as the team was just happy about having the chance to create a brand new intellectual property from scratch.

“I’ve gotta be honest, I’m still surprised about how successful Assassin’s Creed is and how it took on a life of its own,” said Raymond, as reported by GamesRadar.

“When we started working on it, we did have a plan to make three games. We wanted to, we were super excited. And we also felt like since we were getting this great opportunity to create a new franchise from scratch, and a brand from scratch, we really wanted to create a sort of franchise meta-infrastructure or story engine if you will, so that the franchise could live on.”

The series went on for many more games than the initially planned trilogy and even ended up becoming a movie with Academy Awards winner actors like Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
