Traitors Are More Dangerous Than Enemies

The conflicting sides of trust and war in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla reach beyond the edges of England. But more so, the ever-challenging encounters that Eivor finds themselves in eventually come at a price – especially when familiar faces are tested. In this guide for Valhalla, Eivor’s epic quest is met with a questionable obstacle when they must choose between Halfdan and Faravid.

During the Eurviscire story arc, Halfdan is suspicious of Faravid’s actions. He believes that Faravid intends to kill him, thus you’re tasked with playing a double-edged sword of honor by fighting alongside Faravid to gain his trust. Toward the arc’s conclusion, after revealing more details with dialogue options, a ceremony is held in the Royal Hall of Jorvik.

This takes place during the “Of Blood and Bonds” mission. Upon proposing a toast, Halfdan sips his drink and begins to cough. It’s discovered that Halfdan’s cups are made of lead. He points the poisoning blame to Faravid, and it’s here where Eivor must make a tough decision.

Side with Faravid: “You are insane, Halfdan”

If you choose to side with Faravid, Halfdan will grow mad and will exile Faravid from his lands. You’ll also lose a great opportunity of forging an alliance with the Eurviscire clan. Furthermore, you are to escort Faravid out of Jorvik, where he’ll ignore your questions regarding the lead. It’s the path that makes you reflect on your actions, and if you did the right thing or not.

Side with Halfdan: “Stand down or fight me, Faravid”

If you select the other option, a fight will commence between you and Faravid. Once you’re finished with the traitor, the infuriated King Halfdan of Northumbria essentially tags in to execute Faravid. Consequently, Halfdan slams his hammer down on his former ally, killing him instantly. Grief will strike hard into his heart, but Halfdan will give Eivor a symbol of friendship, solidifying their alliance.

With all things considered, picking a fight with Faravid is the smarter decision to fall on. Tears will shed, but Eurviscire and the Raven Clan will become allies, which is essential to a future battle in Valhalla. But until then, you’ll have time to gather your best resources and abilities.
